Legend has it that candy canes first appeared in hook form around (this year). Candy sticks were common, but they took shape when the Choirmaster at the Cologne Cathedral in Germany got the idea to twist the candy sticks to look like shepherd’s hooks. He handed them out to kids during church services to keep them quiet.
